Volunteer with RCP

Last year, 230+ volunteers and 550+ RCP members spent over 20,000 hours together. Join us!

RCP functions like a very large, very robust community. We believe in the power of relationships, and of moving mindsets of charity to mindsets of mutual aid and solidarity, making RCP a place where deep connection and belonging is felt within across communities hailing from all over the world. Here, RCP Members and community residents contribute their time, skills, and passions to create a sustainable community support network, supporting each other and new families as they arrive. Volunteer through a specific program, or join our fleet of on-call volunteers who pitch in on all sorts of spontaneous things.

Become a Bridge Builder Volunteer. In our Bridge Builder program, volunteers are paired with RCP Members, and they work together to help achieve Members' personal goals, ranging from finding and signing up for a local ESL class, to securing stable housing, to navigating the public school system, and everything in between. While we prefer volunteers be able to commit for 2+ years, Bridge Builders involves a 1 year minimum commitment, visiting with families for ~2-4 hours per week, and participating in RCP's regular community events.

Become a volunteer Language Navigator. In this program, Language Navigators accompany RCP Members as they navigate healthcare settings, providing transportation, accompanying to appointments, helping to request an interpreter, and do post-appointment follow-ups like get a prescription filled. The Navigator is there to provide social and emotional support, and to help ensure that their voices and their agency is being respected.

Are you a doula/birth worker? Volunteer with Birth Allies. In RCP's Birth Allies program, doulas/birth workers serve on an RCP mother's prenatal team, providing social and emotional doula support throughout their pregnancy and labor & delivery journeys. Mothers and their pre-natal team meet together at least 3 times before the due date, attending prenatal appointments, determining birthing preferences and needs, and talking through nervousness about birthing in the American hospital system. Doulas who volunteer with RCP have already been trained and certified as a doula (if you want to be a doula but haven't been trained yet, check out UNC's Birth Partners program - after training with them, you can be placed with an RCP prenatal team). Doulas who volunteer with RCP commit to being available on-call starting 2 weeks before the mother's due date, until 2 weeks after birth.

Volunteer at RCP's Summer Camp. Every summer, RCP hosts a vibrant, multicultural, free summer camp. Running 5 days/week for 6 weeks, camp is staffed by refugee and migrant young adults, and volunteer camp counselors. Volunteer counselors must be able to commit to at least 1 day/week for all 6 weeks.

Join our fleet of on-call volunteers! On-call volunteers pitch in on specific activities - like helping to organize or volunteer at our community Family Fun Days - or for spontaneous things like delivering fresh produce we unexpectedly received from some farmer friends!
